Healthy eating with Braces
While having braces doesn’t mean you have to change your diet dramatically, it does mean you have to pay closer attention to types of foods you eat.
It is important to avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy foods as they can pull brackets off your teeth. We also recommend reducing the amount of sugar in your diet, as it can get caught in and around the brackets leading to decay. Plain soft chocolates are fine as long as you brush afterwards.
Foods to avoid:
| Hard Foods: |
Sticky Lollies: |
| Crusty bread |
Hard-centre chocolates |
| Whole apples |
Fantales |
| Corn on the cob |
Redskins |
| Raw carrots |
Minties |
| Meat on bones |
Toffee |
| Large pieces of tough steak |
Lollipops |
| Pork crackling |
Warheads |
| Ice cubes |
|
| |
|
It is also important that you do not:
- Chew your pen
- Open water bottles with your teeth
- Chew your nails
- Drink excessive amounts of Soft Drink
