Braces in Brisbane Properly aligned teeth can last a lifetime if they are properly aligned and cared for.
You can commence Orthodontic treatment at any age. There are generally four stages of treatment – Early Examination, Early Treatment, Adolescent Treatment and Adult treatment. Your age will however impact the cost, complexity, duration and type of treatment required.
Early Examination – We recommend making an appointment to see Dr Mewing at an early age. This will help us to plan future treatment and spot any tooth or jaw problems. An early examination will usually take place at around 7 to 8 years of age.
Early Treatment – For some patients we may recommend commencing treatment early to help prevent problems becoming more serious in the future. Early treatment enables teeth and jaws to grow correctly and give teeth plenty of room to emerge successfully. Patients who undergo early treatment can often achieve results not possible at a later age.
Adolescent Treatment – Undergoing Orthodontics in your teenage years is the most common time. This is a great time to commence treatment as all permanent teeth are in place and patients are experiencing growth toward the adult bite. Adolescent Treatment will usually involve braces or functional appliances.
Adult Treatment – Today more and more adults are choosing to undergo Orthodontic treatment. We regularly treat patients who are over fifty years of age. It is never too late to achieve a beautiful, straight smile. Some severe problems cannot be corrected with braces alone. In some cases, jaw surgery may need to be combined with orthodontic treatment to achieve the best results.
