Childrens Orthodontist in Brisbane Getting started early
If you believe your child will require Orthodontic treatment, we recommend making an appointment to see Dr Mewing at an early age.
Age can impact a number of different issues within the mouth. Seeing Dr Mewing early does not necessarily mean treatment will commence immediately; however, getting a professional opinion from observing the developing teeth will ensure the best possible treatment when the time comes. Early treatment can prevent Orthodontic problems from becoming more severe – which can result in a shorter and less complicated treatment.
Treatment will usually begin when all baby teeth have been lost and the adult teeth have erupted. This is the case so treatment is permanent. Some early intervention maybe carried out by your Orthodontist to minimise future treatment. When treatment is commenced at an early age it can produce benefits that would be limited if treated at a later time. This treatment is called a Two Phase Program.
Many Orthodontic cases can benefit from early treatment. Some of these cases include;
- Skeletal discrepancies
- Borderline non-extraction cases
- Restoring lost space in dental arches
- Severe aesthetic problems
- Crossbites
- Severe overbites or openbites.
